Antiparkinson Agents

Anticholinergic drugs
are the oldest  antiparkinsonian agents, dating back to the late nineteenth century, when the naturally occurring alkaloid atropine was first used in PD patients. In the 1950s, synthetic formulations of muscarinic receptor blockers became available, including benztropine, trihexyphenidyl, and ethopromazine.
